- Platforms
- Database
- PostgreSQL – Excellent ACID SQL/RDBMS
- MySQL – MySQL multi-master replication for fault tolerance
- SQLite – SQLite is a small C library that implements a self-contained, embeddable, zero-configuration SQL database engine
- Mail Server
- Clam AntiVirus – Clam AntiVirus is an open source (GPL) anti-virus toolkit for UNIX, designed especially for e-mail scanning on mail gateways. It provides a number of utilities including a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon, a command line scanner and advanced tool for automatic database updates. - Dovecot – Great IMAP server with caching
- Exim – Exim is a highly configurable MTA. It served me well for nearly 10 years.
- Postfix – I've switched from Exim to Postfix. Postfix has much faster queue processing, and offers RFC compliant notifications. – Postfix attempts to be fast, easy to administer, and secure, while at the same time being sendmail compatible enough to not upset existing users. Thus, the outside has a sendmail-ish flavor, but the inside is completely different.
- dspam – DSPAM is a scalable and open-source content-based spam filter designed for multi-user enterprise systems.
- Operating System
- CentOS Linux – I've used Red Hat since Mother's Day release. – Red Hat Source Rebuild
- FreeBSD – FreeBSD is an advanced operating system. It is derived from BSD, the version of UNIX developed at the University of California, Berkeley. It is developed and maintained
by a large team of individuals. Additional platforms are in various stages of development.
- DragonFly BSD – Fork of FreeBSD 4.11, focus: scalability, robustness, and debuggability. HAMMER File System
- Solaris 10 – Zones and ZFS are excellent for building fault tolerant and scalable systems.
- Ubuntu Linux – I perfer Ubuntu Desktop – Linux for human beings. Ubuntu is my distribution of choice and I use it with Amazon EC2.
- Telephony
- Asterisk – Fantastic! This powers my home PBX as well.
- FreePBX – Sophisticated managment platform for Asterisk
- OpenSER – GPL'd SER (SIP Express Router) with nathelper solve SIP NAT issues
- Radiator – Radiator Radius Server
- Web Server
- Varnich Cache
- Apache – I've used Apache since it was a patchset to NCSA httpd. – The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to develop and maintain an open-source HTTP server for modern operating systems including UNIX and Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide a secure, efficient and extensible server that provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP standards.
- PHP – most of my work is in PHP. – PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML.
- Perl
- memcached - a distributed memory object cache
